Thanksgiving Books for Kids: The Little Helpers' Thanksgiving — A Pets-at-Work Story & Coloring Adventure

By Terry Morgan · October 24, 2026 · 5 min read

Thanksgiving week has a rhythm all its own: something's always in the oven, somebody's always arriving, and the kids — excited, underfoot, and asking when the pie happens — need something better than a screen to land on. That's exactly why we made The Little Helpers' Thanksgiving: A Pets-at-Work Story and Coloring Adventure. It's a Thanksgiving book for kids that does two jobs at once: a warm pets Thanksgiving story to read together, and a Thanksgiving coloring book to keep little hands busy long after the last page. Four pets, one cottage kitchen, and a feast that only gets saved because everybody helps — here's the story behind our newest book.

A Thanksgiving story where the pets run the kitchen

Autumn leaves are twirling around a little cottage, and Milo, Pip, Clover, and Nibbles have a happy plan: a Thanksgiving feast to share. But a feast doesn't cook itself — so every pet gets a job. Milo bakes. Clover gathers. Pip delivers. Nibbles makes the table ready. It's a pets-at-work story in the truest sense: small helpers, real tasks, and a dinner that comes together one little job at a time.

Of course, no Thanksgiving goes entirely to plan. Clover's garden basket grows heavy with carrots and corn. Milo's pumpkin pie fills the cottage with a warm, sweet smell. And then there's the table — one short leg, one serious wobble — and the four paper leaf cards Pip made for the feast, which a playful breeze sends tumbling down the path. One ends up too soggy to use, and for a moment it looks like the place cards won't match at all. What happens next is the heart of the book: nobody fixes it alone. The friends search together, gather real autumn leaves, trace fresh cards, and finish their feast the same way they started it — together. It's a gentle, funny story about teamwork and gratitude, pitched right for kids ages 4–8.

Meet the little helpers

  • Milo the basset chef — the baker of the bunch. Milo stirs the pumpkin filling, slides the pie into the oven, and knows exactly what to say when a friend is feeling low: "You have not lost your helpers."
  • Pip the cat — the deliverer. Pip carries baskets, ferries the harvest inside, and holds the table steady while it gets fixed. Pip also learns the book's biggest lesson: a mistake isn't the end of the feast when your friends show up.
  • Clover the bunny — the gatherer. Clover hops into the garden for carrots and corn, spots the lost leaf cards by the gate, and comes up with the idea that saves them.
  • Nibbles the guinea pig — the table-keeper. Nibbles counts out four plates ("One for each of us!"), fixes the wobble with a wooden block, and traces the new leaf cards.

Why a story + coloring book in one is perfect for Thanksgiving week

Most Thanksgiving books for kids do one thing: you read them, they're lovely, they're done in eight minutes. We built this one for the week as it actually unfolds — which is why half the book is a story and the other half is a coloring adventure starring the same four friends.

For the road trip

Hours in the car to Grandma's house call for more than a tablet battery. A story to read aloud at the start, then coloring pages of Milo, Pip, Clover, and Nibbles for the long middle stretch — one book covers the whole drive.

For the kids' table

While the turkey rests and the grown-ups are deep in gravy logistics, a Thanksgiving coloring book at the kids' table turns waiting time into making time. The pages revisit the story they just heard, so the coloring feels like part of the feast, not a distraction from it.

For the quiet time after

Post-pie energy is real, and so is the post-pie crash. Coloring is one of the calmest ways down — and because the pictures match the story, kids retell the feast in their own words while they work. Retelling is reading comprehension in disguise; we won't tell them if you won't.

Inside the book

  • 100 pages — a complete picture-book story followed by a coloring adventure with the same characters and scenes
  • 8.5 × 11 premium color paperback — big pages that give small hands room to work
  • For kids ages ~4–8 — read-aloud for younger readers, independent reading and coloring for older ones
  • Themes: teamwork, gratitude, helping at home, and what to do when something goes wrong (spoiler: ask your helpers)
  • ISBN: 9798164250652
